I was thinking of going on to Bachelor of Film and Television course for Melbourne University, Victorian College of the Arts.

If the full payment each year was $17,000 AU, how would HECS help me afford that course?

How much would i have to pay? Would this be called student contribution? How much does the Government support me?

  1. HECS would pay all of these Fees upfront for you...VCA is an accredited Institution, so they ARE covered by HECS ( I got a run-up place there lol)...It means that the full yearly cost of studying the course there would be covered by the Government. You would have a debt to the Government, but you are only required to pay this back when you start earning an annual income over a particular amount (I think it's like 38 grand plus change per year)...

It's been a while since I was at uni, and the rules and stuff have changed etc...I know they now have a voluntary student contribution, which is the direct fees to the Uni (Usually about 3-400 dollars per year)...I know the Universities have made this voluntary, i.e. you choose if you wanna pay it or not), I don;t know if VCA has or not...you may have to check with them on that...just ask how much Fees are for your enrolment....but re: HECS....you don't pay anything at all.

    Hope I helped :-)
