  1. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks the immune system, the body’s natural defense system. Without a strong immune system, the body has trouble fighting off disease. Both the virus and the infection it causes are called HIV.

HIV may not cause symptoms early on. People who do have symptoms may mistake them for the flu or mono. Common early symptoms include:

    Fever.

    Sore throat.

    Headache.

    Muscle aches and joint pain.

    Swollen glands (swollen lymph nodes).

    Skin rash.

Symptoms may appear from a few days to several weeks after a person is first infected. The early symptoms usually go away within 2 to 3 weeks

After the early symptoms go away, an infected person may not have symptoms again for many years. But during this time, the virus continues to grow in the body and attack the immune system. After a certain point, symptoms reappear and then remain. These symptoms usually include:

    Swollen lymph nodes.

    Extreme tiredness.

    Weight loss.

    Fever.

    Night sweats.

A doctor may suspect HIV if these symptoms last and no other cause can be found.

  4. HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus.

It's a virus that attacks your immune system. It is transmitted only through blood-to-blood or sexual contact.

When someone is infected by HIV and their immune system is damaged to the point where opportunistic infections occur (i.e. infections a normally healthy person is unlikely to get) then it is usually described as having progressed to AIDS.

  5. HIV is the Virus that causes AIDS.  It is passed through bodily fluids (s*x and blood contact).

While there are treatments for it, there is no cure, and it can cause death.  If it goes untreated, it is likely to cause death.

Use condoms, don't have s*x with anyone who you know to have aids (condoms aren't 100%, they can break).

Use ruber gloves when handling blood and bodily fluids.

Go to wikipedia to find out more info.  Get tested as soon as possible if you think you have it.
