  2. What do you need to know?  you have answered your own question.

  3. In France, a store is called a hypermarket when it is larger than 2500 square meters.

This size only takes into account the the main store (not the mall around it), and its selling surface (excluding the storage areas).

Large hypermarkets have surfaces above 8000 square meters, the largest ones having 25000 square meters.

Between 400 and 2500 square meters, stores are called supermakets. Under 400 square meters, they are supérettes.

  4. It' s bigest than a supermarket. That's all.

  5. It's the size above supermarket

  6. Yes you are correct...

The "hypermarkets" could also be called "megastores" as they are enormous in size and variety of contents....

In certain european countries we have the following chain stores: Carrefour, Auchan (Alcampo in spanish), Leclerc, HyperU, Euromarché, Géant (Casino), there are others that pertain to just one country, such as Eroski in Spain. I presume that Italy, Germany and other countries also have their local chains of hypermarkets.

Carrefour and Auchan are the most widely spread.

  7. Hypermarchet - Sort of a Target/Walmart combined with a grocery store.
