  1. ok so for J we have  1 ≤x  &lt; 3

    and for I we have 2 &lt; x ≤ 4 ( I guess the second one is meant to be I )

    ∪ will be all the numbers except the recurring ones:  

       1 ≤ x  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚‰Â¤ 4

    and for ∩ we have the numbers that these two share:

    2&lt;  x  &lt; 3

    We will assume your real question is

    What is I U J and I ∩ J when I ={x:xεR and 2&lt;x ≤ 4} and

    J = [1,3)  

    I is in set builder notation and is equivelent to (2,4] in interval notation

    J is already expressed using interval notation

    I U J would be [1,4] using the interval notation and

    I ∩J  is the interval (2,3) using the interval notation.
