  2. It's a bit complicated, but it doesn't have to be.  ISO stands for International Standards Organization.   Another term that is similar is ASA (American Standards Association.)

As to cameras, it essential refers to the "speed" of the film you are using.

The higher the number, the faster the film.  Of the most popular films, 50 would be very slow, and 400 would be very fast, although 25 and 1000  are not uncommon.  All this has to do with what is called shutter speed on your camera.

All you really need to know is that the lower the number, the sharper the photo.

    It works like this:

If you are using a lower number film, your exposure will have to be longer.  A higher number lets you take shorter (faster) exposure.

If it is generally a bright sunny day, you should use a low number, and 100 or 120 is just fine.  If it is evening or somewhat dark, you need to use a higher number, like 200 or 400.

The reason is something called camera shake which makes your photo look blurry.

If you can use a tripod, that will eliminate camera shake almost completely no matter what film you use.

  3. ISO. International Standards Organization. A measurement of the sensitivity to light of a light sensitive surface whether film or digital sensor.

The lower the ISO the less sensitive our light sensitive surface is to light. We use a low ISO for scenics and nature and other stationary subjects. We also use a low ISO for maximum image quality.

For sports and action or on an overcast day we'd choose a higher ISO such as 400 or even 800. The trade-off is more grain with film and more noise with digital.
