  1. I really do not think that Joseph Conrad had that big an influence on society, there may be a few people he ha an effect on, but they are few and far between.

  2. Well...in fairly recent times, "Apocalypse Now" was made, ummm...in 1980 or a little earlier. It was based on "Heart of Darkness" , the Conrad story. I recommended H.O.D. to a professor of mine back in 1988. He found it slow going.

To get back to the movie, it helped revive Jim Morrison's career and cult of personality...unfortunately for him, he was dead by then. But it put more money in other Doors' members wallets. I am sure that they were somewhat grateful to Conrad. They are still spending money today.

I am trying to read Almayer's Folly...or I was, because I found it to be rather slow going. Maybe I'll get around to it. Lord Jim is a bigger Conrad book...and Nostromo (name of ship in "Alien"). Maybe I'll get around to them.

Hemingway had a lot of respect for Conrad. So a bit of Hemingway's influence might be shared with Conrad.
