What is Karate like? Hard or not?

My Mum might put me in karate. I'm not sure what its like! Should I go in or not?

At one time, say in the 1960s, Karate was the most hardest and brutal thing in the world, surpassing boxing for body torture.

Today in 2008 Karate is dancing.

All the martial arts in the West have been sportified and watered down.

It all depends on your teacher and the club...

Wish we could say for sure. But it also depends on what you mean by hard.

Try it, enjoy it. Maybe it will be a challenge but it will be worth it!

--my class started out pretty easy compared to what we do now because  you have to learn the basics first (punch, kick, blocks, proper fist placement,  technique, etc.)

--but as it becomes more physically demanding (you are wore out, tired, etc.) and you have to keep going.....that's when true karate starts

--if it's something you don't want to do or have no interest in don't do it, you would be wasting your time and your sensei's time

--if you have some interest in it give it a try and see

--it can also help with self-confidence, self-control, humility, etc..and can infuence every aspect of your life

Depends on which belt rank you have and age.

Teachers make you work hard if your a high belt level or 7 and older.

Also, if your teacher is strict or not

ok it depends what teache you have

me it takes more than a year per belt, so its kinda tough

i do 1hour workout there and 1 hour techniques and 30min of fighting

if your teacherpromotes you in just a few months, quit

its not worth it

Dont be intimidated, Karate is fun.  Its good exercise but not torture.  You'll learn kata (similar to shadow boxing) and self-defense,  so its not only fun but useful.  

Its good to learn new things.
