Hi, I have just finished hardmodding my PSP battery and installed custom firmare on it v 3.71 M33 and I am waiting for a new PSP battery from eBay so I can boot up my PSP normally. I was researching some more about hacking my PSP, and I ran into something called a Kernel 1.50 AddOn, but im not exactly sure what it does. I also don't know what homebrew is, or what it means, exactly. Can some1 please explain in detail what each one means and what they do or what they are for? Ty!

  1. OK, this is the answer.

As you probably know, about 97% of homebrew is designed for 1.5 Firmware, and not 3.xx or 4.xx Custom Firmware. The thing is, as the homebrew is made for 1.5, your PSP will not read them, which is why it sometimes says "the game cannot be started" when you try and run homebrew. If you install the 1.50 kernel it takes some certain things from the update file and uses them to run the firmware.

Once you install it, you can make a folder called GAME150 in the PSP folder and put all the homebrew in there, and it'll work fine.

And also, homebrew is basically applications for PSP that people who don't work for games companies etc make, and do it for fun.

  2. The easiest way to install custom firmware on a PSP prior to the latest methods was to "downgrade" it to version 1.50, which would then allow you to install the CFW. (Beginning with versions above 1.50, Sony installed technology to prevent the ability to install custom firmware)  This is not necessary if you have a hardmodded battery, so you can ignore the 1.50 addon.

Homebrew is simply the term given to applications, etc. that are able to be used by those with custom firmware.
