  1. Losing the colonies, possibly being crazy, actually being one royal who had a good marriage.  I agree with Prince Charles that he was grossly misunderstood.

  2. He lost America and made us a nation of coffee drinkers, bless him.

  3. If it's one thing, it's his struggles with mental illness.  Beyond that, he was King during the American Revolution and Napoleonic wars (though by the time of the latter, his son the future George IV was running things and was monarch in all but name) and is also noted for having the longest reign of any British King (60 years).

  4. Yes, he lost the American colonies. Yes, he suffered from bouts of mental illness. But as members of the highly secretive G3R Society know, his greatest claim to fame should be as the creator of  Starkauf Pie. The recipe for (and the wonderful properties of) this pie, when eaten cold, have been kept a closely guarded secret by the G3R Society (motto "George eine schwierige Angelegenheit zum zu folgen").

  5. George III of Great Britain; George III of Ireland; George III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland;  Georg III Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire (unofficially Elector of Hanover); Georg King of Hanover; He was a rather good farmer, got on well with his wife and was prone to illness.   Particularly porphyria which makes you a bit mad.   He was also the King George against whom the American revolutionaries rebelled, and about whom the successful plan and film were made.

George III, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau was a prince who became a canon and delivered a number of influential sermons.

George III of Georgia was, with his daughter, a leader through its Golden Age, but could be considered a usurper as his older brother had a son who was a legitimate claimant to the throne.

So it depends which George III.

  6. Loosing the American colonies--taking their bid for independence as a personal slight and disregarding the counsel of his ministers

  7. For suffering from a rare disease called porphyria which causes dreadful physical symptoms. It also causes bouts of dementia. George suffered inhumane handling from his doctors and spent his latter years, blind, deaf and insane.

  8. If, you are refering to King George III of Great Britain, he is most widely known for reiging during the American Revolution and suffering from a severe case of dementia in his later years while his son was on the throne during the War of 1812.

  9. For being the third king named George?
