Is kitty litter some kind of mineral?

most have silica in it (the ones that clump) which is a type of clay they can absorb 10X's is own size this is why they suggest not to use it on kittens under 6 months as it could lead to their death if ingested. I use a corn litter it does the same thing as the others just a lot safer!

Some of it is. It is a clay called bentonite. Other kitty litter is vegetable-based.
