Can anyone tell me what LPN school is like....what you experinces with it have been and what parts are hard and what parts are rewarding? How long did it take you to complete it and did you get your license and enter into the field afterwards or did you do something else?

  1. LPN school is hard but bearable and managable.  My program was only  3 semesters long, and there is alot of information to cram into those 3 semesters.   The hard parts were learning to think critical, and being able to pass the exams.  Nursing is not knowing that a high blood pressure is 210/96, its knowing what caused that BP to rise, what meds should be given, what other problems is he at risk for, and how can you teach him to get that BP low and keep it that way.   when you learn to think like that you got it made.

Many people take LPN for granted b/c they are not RN's.  Your scope is limited to your States Board of Nursing practice act, read it and become familiar.  I enjoy interacting with patients during clinic.  I enjoyed being able to make a difference, as student you  have more time to listen to a patient and get to know them than their regular nurse does.   Take advantage of that learning experience.

I also suggest if you can go ahead and get your RN if its feasible, if not get that LPN and make plans to bridge to RN.  Good Luck.
