Its a course that studies standard deviation ( sigma ) which mean variation.

They study quality control by using statistics (spc) statistical process control.

Basically they try to reduce waste and improve quality control by studying data IE number of rejected products for each machine in a production line.

Lean because you cut out any waste ( time management for example) eg is it worth inspecting products before dispatching them ? as it is costly to pay staff to inspect goods if it is not really necessary.
