  1. She's a mix obviously, which brings me to a topic about race. Isn't it interesting how race is classified?  You can be 99% white and 1% black and you're considered black.  No other race fits that classification.  If I have 1% of Hispanic or Asian in me no one would consider me either of those races.  I must imagine that it goes back to the slave days in America.  Masters who had their way with their slaves and fathered half white / half black babies weren't going to allow that baby to be classified as anything other than black. They'd have to free them otherwise and that wasn't going to happen.

Lolo Jones, whatever her racial makeup is, is a beautiful and talented woman. That's about all I care about...oh...and I'd like her phone number too...   ;-)

  2. THE FOLLOWING IS A FULL ANSWER!

It is easy to say Black, White, Asian...but its more difficult to be intelligent to know that those classifications are not prefect.

She is CREOLE. That is her RACE. Many of her features are Nortic, features of the skull & facial structure are found more in Europe then in Africa for example.

But. That is not her Race. She is Creole. WHAT IS CREOLE????

"Creole" refers to people of any ethnic background or mixture thereof who are descended from settlers in colonial French Louisiana before it became part of the United States in 1803 with the Louisiana Purchase. Some are mixed racial descent like LOLO who is French, Native American, African American, and Norwegian.

The general perception of a Creole is usually of an olive toned individual. Louisiana's Creole People (Creoles of Color) are of mixed (mainly) French, Spanish, African-American, and Native American heritage.

The idea that 1 drop of black makes you black is not just an American idea. Actually across the world over, whoever is the dominant group will many times classify people slightly mixed with another race as one of the other race. There was an interesting article about people in certain African tribes that were infiltrated by foreign blood, the children were called "foreigners" by the Africans even though the child was born and raised by the African mother and abandoned by the true foreigner.

We are all part of the same human family.

  3. Its actually called African American creole. Not french, native, etc. etc. etc..

    Kinda like Beyonce Knowles..

  4. I think it's strange that 1% will qualify you as an African-American as well.  How many black people in America have actually lived in Africa at one point or another?  I mean, I'm of German descent, so why am I just considered "white" and not German-American?  Though I've never traveled to Germany or lived there, I've spent just as much time in that country as 99.9% of black people in America have in Africa.

Black folks are VERY quick to claim stars like Tiger Woods, Alicia Keyes, and Barrack Obama as their own.  Would someone please explain to me how in the world Barrack Obama is considered black? He was raised by his white mother and white grandparents after his black father abandoned him and went to Africa.  Raised by an all-white support system and attended an Ivy-league school...doesn't qualify as black to me.

And yes, Lolo Jones is hot no matter her ethnicity.

  5.    Tim K, i understand the point you are trying to make, but going to an Ivy League school isn't something that makes anyone "White". I am Black, and currently attend an Ivy League school. Furthermore, I am not the first person in my family to attend an Ivy. I am also from Connecticut and graduated at the top of my class from one of the best prep schools in the country.  All of those things make me accomplished, not "White", and came as a result of my hard work and the work of my parents (who had to pay for it!). I am secure and proud of being Black and can identify with people of all races because at the end of the day, we are all humans. My parents are both immigrants from Jamaica, and I'm proud of that too.

Race, socioeconomic level, and education are all independent of each other. I have friends of all nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, and class levels-some of my White friends are poor and dropped out of high school, some of my Black friends are wealthy and go to universities ranked in the top 10. People don't always fit their stereotypes.

My mixed friends and family members tell me they usually identify according to how others see them. Barack Obama may have been raised by mostly White people, but if society views him as a Black man, it is easier for him to accept that identity. Hopefully the day will come when people can just be themselves and color doesn't matter.

  6. I don't care what she is. She is HOT!!!, but I'd have to agree she's is mixed

  7. Who cares?

She's American.  Period.  She doesn't have to be a hyphenate-anything.  She is a wonderful athlete, she overcame hardships most of us cannot imagine, and while not winning the gold medal in the 100 meter hurdles is unfortunate, it does not change who she is, and what she has achieved.  My heart aches for her, and I wish her well.  She is a splendid American.  I don't care about her ethnicity.  Neither should anyone else.

  8. Long Answer: LoLo is most definitely Mixed Race aka Multiracial.

She is not black nor white by a long shot, you can just tell the mixed race features in her. And for the record Beyonce no Obama are black they are mixed. A study found that 75% of white's and 85% of Hispanics consider Obama to be mixed race not black. On the other hand 75% of blacks considered Obama to be black. Your'e right my ancestors did create the one drop rule but in the mid 20th century it was no longer considered a rule. The only people who hold onto it with so much vigor are blacks. Also for the record, most Creoles don't consider themselves black they consider themselves a mixed race sect.

Short Answer: Lolo is Mixed race, undoubtbly

  9. a beautiful mix of:

    Black

    Norwegian

    French

    Native American

  10. I was wondering as well thank you to the other answers.

  11. This issue of race goes back to slavery and segregation.  If a certain percentage of your blood  or your parents were of African descent you were considered black.  My grandmother was mixed, looked white but was considered black.  Lolo is mixed African American, White, French, Norwegian, but she is also human which is the only validity that upholds to me.

  12. Obama decided that he best identifies with African-Americans.

BTW Intelligence, poise, ambition, and eloquence of speech are not inherit traits of White Americans or any people for that matter.

  13. I wondered the same thing. She is definitely mixed and is so gorgeous.

She is of French, Native American, African-American, and Norwegian descent, according to Wikipedia. See below.

  14. I just looked this up........LoLo Jones is French, Native American, African, and Norwegian.........so you can't just call her Any One nationality...............

  15. she's not part-creole, it says french, so she's part-french, and gorgeous by the way ... I'm sorry she hit that hurdle today because she was awesome!  Hooray for mixed-race Iowans!

  16. she is native american, black, and white

  17. Black

    Norwegian

    French

    Native American

  18. Whatever she is, she's f(*&%#@ gorgeous.

  19. I'm the exact same mix, I can tell you this girl is absolutely one of the most gorgeous girls of our race I have ever seen!! Dawn Harper? So beautiful too, best smile, and such sweetnes in her eyes. What a race!( the running, I mean)

  20. Okay yes we all know now that Lolo Jones is of mixed race, her father is African American, w/traces of Native American ancestry in his blood and her mother is Norwegian, French, German and Irish and she was born in Des Moines, Iowa. And this guy TOM whoever...who says BLACK FOLKS ARE QUICK TO CLAIM STARS...hmm that's not true, they claim it themselves most of the people you mentioned say they are black by saying just that or by mentioning all races they are mixed with, either way is fine with me because it's true. However Tiger Woods' father is BLACK, Alicia Keys' father is BLACK, Barack Obama's father is BLACK, Halle Berry's father is BLACK. Not to mention when you look @ some of them what do you see, a  BLACK PERSON. You wouldn't look @ Obama & say "Oh look there goes a WHITE man"...DAH!!  And so what if he attended a white Ivy-League school good for him, that's really great, he's still BLACK. And why is someone bringing up Beyonce being Creole or Black. Do you know what the definition of Louisiana Creole is?  "Louisiana's Creole People (Creoles of Color) are of mixed (mainly) French, Spanish, African-American, and Native American heritage." (from the Wikipedia, Creole People). Yes if you're Creole you're still BLACK. Who cares if she says she's Creole or Black, when you look @ her you see a Black woman. Just like myself , all 4 of my grandparents are from the Cape Verde Islands, mixed with African, Portuguese, French & Jewish, therefore they are crioulos (Portuguese for creoles) of mixed Portuguese and African descent. I call myself an African American but technically I am & also call myself a Cape Verdean American. I don't understand something, if someone just asked a simple question is  Lolo Jones mixed, white or black why did it have to turn into a big debate? That's all they asked no big deal & that's all that should been answered, easy as that?

  21. I don't care what race she is personally.  She is absolutely beautiful.  She's HOT.   People are always wondering what race I am too so I can relate.  I'm black, puerto rican, and filipino and I embrace that fact.

  22. Lolo is of African-American, Native American, Norwegian, and French descent.  So yes, she is mixed.

  23. She's African American.
