  1. the mac address is the media access control. it is a # that serves as an identifier for a particular network adapter. u get the mac address from the ip address. an ip address is the numerical identification assigned to the particular device ur trying to connect to.

  2. In computer networking a Media Access Control address (MAC address) or Ethernet Hardware Address (EHA), hardware address, adapter address or physical address is a quasi-unique identifier attached to most network adapters (NIC or Network Interface Card). It is a number that serves as an identifier for a particular network adapter. Thus network cards (or built-in network adapters) in two different computers will have different MAC addresses, as would an Ethernet adapter and a wireless adapter in the same computer, and as would multiple network cards in a router. However, it is possible to change the MAC address on most of today's hardware, often referred to as MAC spoofing.

MAC addresses, unlike IP addresses and IPX addresses, are not divided into "host" and "network" portions. Therefore, a host cannot determine from the MAC address of another host whether that host is on the same layer 2 network segment as the sending host or a network segment bridged to that network segment.

  3. I am robot, and earth is mine :)

  4. MAC address refers to your network card that accesses a Local Area Network. every ethernet card has a unique mac address. this is how the router recognizes your computer. MAC stands for Media Access Control. You might want to check out Wikipedia's article:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address

  5. It's a hardware encoded addy for your NIC.

and it is diffrent because your ip changes but your mac address is set in stone and can only be accessed locally

  6. in SIMPLE, everyday terms: mac address is a code / number that is BUILT INTO the hardware (it's like...a social security number...or DNA)...so for the router in my basement, its MAC address will NEVER change...it can be used to block specific wireless cards from accessing your home network for example (but it has many uses)

but an IP address is a temporary (or sometimes more permanent if your isp gives you a "static" ip for an add'l fee) number used to identify your internet connection (internet ip address) AND ALSO within your local network (local ip address assigned by your router)....for example my internet ip address is 71.###.###.### (where # is a digit) right now (assigned by verizon dsl), but my local computer's address is 192.168.1.104.

  7. The MAC address is a unique hardware identifier attached to network adapters, although it can be easily spoofed.

  8. The term MAC is short for Media Access Control. A MAC address uniquely identifies an ethernet network card, or a machine with a built in ethernet network card. No two MAC addresses are the same.

The term IP is short for Internet Protocol.  An IP address uniquely identifies a computer on the internet or on a local intranet.

  9. In a local area network (LAN) or other network, the MAC (Media Access Control) address is your computer's unique hardware number. (On an Ethernet LAN, it's the same as your Ethernet address.) When you're connected to the Internet from your computer (or host as the Internet protocol thinks of it), a correspondence table relates your IP address to your computer's physical (MAC) address on the LAN.

The MAC address is used by the Media Access Control sublayer of the Data-Link Layer (DLC) of telecommunication protocols. There is a different MAC sublayer for each physical device type. The other sublayer level in the DLC layer is the Logical Link Control sublayer.

  10. make address is like finger printer each network card all over the world have a mac address

    you got it ??

you can't find 2 network cards have the same mac

  11. Depends what country he lives in

    roflmao

  12. It's a hardware encoded addy for your NIC.

Your IP is your network addy.
