  1. A mil is 1/1000 of an inch, a measure of the thickness of the material the pool cover is made of.  The thicker, the better.

  2. Mils are not metric.

One unit of mil, equals 1/1000 of 1".

So 8 mils are 8/1000 of 1 inch thick.

So the higher the Mil number, the thicker a sheet product like plastic or a coating like paint is, and therefore more expensive.

  3. thickness of the material

  4. its a measurement. millimeters

  5. Mil is the thickness in the metic system.  The thicker the mill in your applicaton, the less heat that will be absorbed or lossed.  I am not sure of the cost difference, but whichever you need will be greatly reduced by the differnce in mils.  good luck.

  6. Sheet thickness - mils - millimeters.
