  1. well here goes?http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/hope this helps you?

  2. just comenting on the guy that said it multiple fighting styles. its just a mix of differents tecnquies of fighting.. i think thats how u spell tecnquies not sure..

  3. In reality almost any style out there today can be considered a MMA style. When the person who founded the style put it together they took certian techniques from one source and more from another source etc. Isshin-Ryu which I train is a blend of Shoryn-Ryu, Goju-Ryu, and Kabudo(weapons).

In the modern sense MMA is a fighting style geared more towards sport fighting in a ring, and it uses a multitude of techniques from different styles.

  4. Mixed MArtial Arts

    It could be anything honestly.

It could be boxing mixed with Karate like Goju Ryu or Shotokhan and judo

Anything that adapts certain moves from other styles is mixed martial arts

  5. I think is Multiple Martial Arts.

  6. M.M.A. is simply Mixed Martial Art like Jeet Kune Do or Wado Ryu Karate or Ketsugo or San Yama Bushi Jiu Jitsu or JUKADO or Shorinji Kempo, etc.

If you mix two or more martial arts then you have a mixed martial art.

It is really that simple.  MMA is not a separate style.

  7. Mixed martial arts (MMA) is an intense combat sport in which competitors use different forms of fighting that include jiu-jitsu, judo, karate, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and others to their strategic and tactical advantage in a supervised match. Scoring for mixed martial arts events in Nevada, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Florida is based on athletic-commission approved definitions and rules for striking (blows with the hands, feet, knees or elbows) and grappling (submission, choke holds, throws or takedowns).

  8. mixed martial arts. you can use any fighting style you want. but you better know a little of eveything.

  9. its wel mixed it is grappling i.e. BJJ traditional jiujitsu judo sombo submissiom/catch wrestling

its stand up boxing kick boxing muaythai even traditional arts like kartae and tae kwon do

and wrestling like the slams and take downs

street fighters do get in to it and alot of people do think it is a street fight in cage it is a sport and the athletes do trian full time and are very skilled but it is as close to a "real" fight as you can get

  10. MMA is an umbrella term to describe a competitive concept, and combat sport, combining multiple martial arts. Competition is the main focus of MMA, however, some schools do not neglect self-defense techniques (And some acknowledge skill as a factor).

The training is often highly realistic and has limited rules. There are various martial disciplines involved. There are no rules for which arts may be used, just the guideline that the art that you DO use cover all combat ranges, since your opponent will train in all combat ranges. For example:

Boxing, tae kwon do, judo, jujutsu would  cover everything except for dirty boxing from the clinch.

As I said, it is mostly for competition, but the techinques can easily be utilized for self-defense. You can take Capoeira (And that's technically one of the arts involved in Vale Tudo competition), but that would only be one piece to the puzzle.

  11. Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques, from a mixture of martial arts traditions, to be used in competitions. The rules allow the use of striking and grappling techniques, both while standing and on the ground.

    Popular Disciplines

Stand-up: Various forms of boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and forms of full contact karate are trained to improve footwork, elbowing, kicking, kneeing and punching.

Clinch: Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, Sambo, and judo are trained to improve clinching, takedowns and throws, while Muay Thai is trained to improve the striking aspect of the clinch.

Ground: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, shoot wrestling, catch wrestling, judo, and Sambo are trained to improve submission holds, and defense against them. These styles are also trained to improve and maintain ground control.

  12. It stands for mixed martial arts.

Basically you use whatever martial art works for the sport, the most common ones are: muay thai, boxing, wrestling, and Brazilian Jujitsu, there is no limit, however, on which ones you can take.

You could take Capoeira, but for purposes of MMA it wouldn't do too much good, as capoeira doesn't have full-contact sparring against resisting opponents, you could use to get fit and flexible nonetheless.

    good luck!
