  1. Its actually a military airport ,but used by an increasing number of foreign airlines, and this has led to it being a very busy airport and not a lot of fun to be in as its so small, also a nightmare to park when collecting people as i often do in peak periods, check in desks have been increased recently ,to help cope with passenger numbers, there are airport taxis, but again long wait in peak times. So would suggest if its not too far from your destination you use Alicante airport ,fly out of season,or hire a car,

  2. Murcia does currently not have its own Murcia airport, despite the fact that visitors sometimes refer to the small airport of San Javier as Murcia airport. This Murcia airport lies 45 km of outside Murcia along the Mar Menor and is used by some English airlines see http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/murcia_airport...

  3. its small but convenient. be cafeful of airshows though. had to speed our way to alicante with no notice. be sure to hire a fast car

  4. A big building with trolleys and a runway and people 'n' stuff.

  5. Small, lacking in facilities, a nightmare to park in, but easy to find...

  6. Murcia airport is actually very good - not many flights, easy check-in and fairly quick baggage handling. Not as good as it was as you now have to pay for parking. Taxis always available (Spanish of course) we offer airport pickups on our website if you are interested (only to the Orihuela Costa area and Torrevieja).

  7. small crowded and a nightmare

  8. It's got sort of runway thingies and buildings with heavily-armed immigration police.

  9. St Javier (Mucia) is primarily a military airport that an ever growing number of passenger airlines use.

It is very small and does not see as much traffic as nearby Alicante airport (although that is increasing).  I have always found the staff there friendly and it is always very easy to get a taxi outside of the arrivals department.

However due to the small size of the airport it gets very hot and crowded in the summer months, when check-in takes a long time due to the number of people.  It also does not have much in the way of facilities (just a small shop and a cafeteria).  During siesta time and early morning / evenings these are often closed so there is nothing to do whilst waiting for your flight.

I have family in the area, but because of the above crowding and lack of facilities I now always fly to and from Alicante airport.  This is much bigger and is able to cope far better with the number of people that use it.  There are plenty of shops here to do some shopping whilst you wait for the flight and again taxis are easy to find outside arrivals.
