  1. Maglev is a train that uses the power of magnetic repulsion to lift the train from the tracks, thus reducing contact friction to zero. The train is then propelled forward using the same technology in pulses. This allows for much more efficient power use and higher speed.


  2. As stated above, trains float on a magnetic cushion, similar to trying to push two magnets together.

    They are horrendously expensive, use no existing infrastructure and use a huge amount of power to generate sufficient magnetic fields.

    They are no faster, high speed conventional rail is nearly the same speed at a fraction the cost.

    In fact the fastest land record is unmanned on conventional rails at Holloman AFB.
