  1. Yea Muslims make you pay to get married to their daughter.

Not sure what the purpose is but i guess the more money you get, the more valuable the daughter is?

The bride doesn't do jack with it, the parents keep it...

  2. for eastern countries man give mahr to family of his wife .....in some nations it is only for her family,,,,,in others thy add like it to furnish home of marriage,,,,now days as both man and women work thir is no mahr thy agree both to furnish thir home to gether and divide the costs

  3. Mahr is what Muslims in their marriage in Egypt pay for the bride as a price.

    it consist of money.

the bride suppose to do anything she wish with it.

  4. it is the dowry that the bridegroom pays or gives to the family of his bride .

the new home is provided for by the couple or their families .

the families reach an understanding of who would get what.

the groom gets the home and the electrical appliances .

the girl's family gets the furniture , the furnishings , carpets ,the chinaware ,the silverware , and the clothes of the girl.

this means that they pay more than triple the amount  of the Mahr .

the groom also pays for the wedding party .

this means  that he spends a lot till he gets the bride in his house .

these arrangements can be simplified when the parties involved cannot face the expences .

they reach an agreement on every detail , and the couple would get what is missing bit by bit .

  5. Mahr is the dowry paid to a bride by the groom.

The amount is set by the bride, typically if she's from a rich familly and is used to a certain standard of living, the Mahr will be high.

While some girls are picky about the Mahr, others may compromise (if the guy can't pay) in order to marry the person they love.

Besides the Mahr, the bride will also get jewelry and gifts. She can do whatever she wants with them. A portion of the cash may be used to cover marriage expenses, such as the wedding gown etc...

Please note this custom is for Muslim women only. Christian women in Egypt don't get dowries because there is no divorce in their religion. Sadly, even if the husband is abusive etc.. the bride is stuck with him for life.

Any Muslim woman in Egypt can get a divorce and for this reason there's something else called "Mo'akhar", which is the sum of money to be paid as a compensation to the bride incase a divorce takes place. The Mo'akhar is a pre-agreement that must be written on the wedding contract.

Mahr and Mo'akhar are both Islamic customs that provide financial security for women.

  6. mahr is the money paid to compensate for marrying there daughter it is usually money but in some areas it may be cattle or something like that. and the bride doesnt usually get it becasue parents take it.

  7. Hey there,

Mahr is the dowry paid by the bridegroom to the bride (it could be money or gold).... it is supposed to be a gift for the woman and as a show of appreciation for her acceptance to wed.... however in real life mahr is used to help in wedding expenses... whatever they maybe, cos in Egypt, there is a sort of a common law that both families help in setting up the new home for the bride and groom. So it might be used to buy furnishing or other necessities.
