Question:

What is Malby's contract situation in Detroit?

Looking ahead to the next year or so, I was wondering about Kurt Malby. One of the old guards of the Wings, unlike Draper and Holmstrom and Osgood, he's definitely lost a step or two, and I wondered if he's scheduled to be around. I like Maltby, and he was one of the key guys over the years, but he wasn't so much this year and they could make room for someone in his place. What's the situation? Years left on contract?

  1. As of right now he is a free agent.  He was on a "one year" contract.  However, I expect him to resign before long.  He wants to be here and Babcock loves him.

  2. Kirk Malby? Never heard. =P Jks, jks.

Kirk Maltby on the other hand is still under contract with the Detroit Red Wings. On May 4th, 2007, he resigned with the Red Wings for 3 years worth $2.65 million.

    Maltby earned $950, 000 this season. (07-08)

He will earn $850, 000 for the next two seasons. (08-09, 09-10)

But his contract will only go against $833,000 of Detroit's salary cap.

Hope this is what you are looking for. =]

  3. Maltby has already signed for $883,000, according to my local paper.  He will be a UFA in 2010.

According to http://letsgowings.com/profiles/maltby_k... Maltby signed three-year contract worth $2.65-million contract shortly before the start of the 2007 Stanley Cup playoffs. Maltby will earn $950,000 in 2007-08 and then $850,000 the next two seasons. The contract will count $833,000 against the salary cap.
