You always see it on tv, but it's only the easy parts? Has any one ever been to a training camp? How much do they run?

  2. I had the pleasure of working a Steelers camp. For me, the worst part was no AC in the dorms (but the players had AC.)  For the players, the grueling part comes in contact drills in the hot sun twice a day, and knowing you have to work as hard as you can right now and somehow be able to do it again this afternoon and tomorrow.

During the one-on-one drills, linemen wrestle with each other to get a step on the competition or a rung up on the depth chart. The skill guys mainly have pressure to perform, that is to not forget plays or drop passes or miss tackles and that sort of thing.  The coaches tend to yell a lot when you do those things.

Football players in my opinion earn their money by getting beat up at practice more than any other well-paid athletes (with the exception of Michael Phelps or Lance Armstrong types). I get sore doing yard work. Those guys are pounded and treated like dogs in the training room.

I don't think the fans or media is that hard of a thing for players to deal with. They are generally pampered, and lunch is out of this world on a daily basis.

All in all, it's a great experience that you are glad you don't have to repeat any time soon.

  3. I have been to many USC training camps.
