  1. Non-biodegradable is a word used to identify a product which over time nature is unable to break down into the natural components of nature itself.

It is not biodegradable because man has manipulated it in such a way to create a product that is too strong to be broken down by the organisms and natural weathering present on earth.

Characteristics of items that would make them non-biodegradable are pretty much depedent on the chances that it would be create by nature itself. For example, many plastics are unbiodegradable based on the fact that they do not occur in nature.

Lastly, non-biodegradable REALLy refers to an object that does not degrade within a reasonable amount of time in comparison to the human life. Certain items may take 10 million years to degrade, so they ARE degradable just...not within a relative timespan!

  2. Non-biodegradable substances means substances that could not be degraded through enzymatic degradation. It is not biodegradable because the substances have chemical bonds too strong to be degraded by enzymes, or the substances are not made of organic compounds.
