hello, I'm putting windows vista on my new computer and i had linux Ubuntu on it before

from the install windows it says:

"Where do you want to install Windows?

Name____________Total Size___Free Space___Type

Disk 0 Partition 1_____288.3gb_____0.0mb_____Primary

Disk 0 Partition 2______9.8gb______0.0mb_____Logical"

and it wont let me install because at the bottom it says "Windows cannot be installed to this had disk space. Windows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS"

i don't care if i get rid of Linux Ubuntu so how can i clean it out completely and get rid of partitions so i can install windows vista

thanks in advanced

  1. New Technology File System

NTFS supersedes the FAT file system as the preferred file system for Microsoft’s “Windows”-branded operating systems. NTFS has several improvements over FAT and HPFS (High Performance File System) such as improved support for metadata and the use of advanced data structures to improve performance, reliability, and disk space utilization, plus additional extensions such as security access control lists (ACL) and file system journaling. The file system specification is a trade secret, although it can be licensed commercially from Microsoft through their Intellectual Property licensing program.

However, When You install the Vista through cd....

Do it by booting The comp with boot cd.

You can do it by changing Boot priority of Bios...

After This You Can Delete the Partition and again create it. This Time the partition will be RAW. So Vista will ask to format it before installation. Format it with NTFS. And then Install Vista...

Its not at all tough. It just takes a little bit of english and you can do it all. The installation process is very Simple and guided step by step. Dnt panic. You will do it. Just give it a try if you r not familiar with Windows installation....

  2. You should be able to delete and create partitions off the boot CD.

  3. If you install Windows Vista as part of a multiple-boot configuration, it is important to install Windows Vista on its own partition.  It is recommended that you install Windows Vista on a 5-gigabyte (GB) (that is, 5.120 megabytes) or larger partition.

    • If an existing partition is large enough, you can install Windows Vista on that partition.

    • If the existing partition is too small but you have adequate unpartitioned space, you can create a new Windows Vista partition in that space.

    • If the hard disk has an existing partition, you can delete it to create more unpartitioned disk space for the Windows Vista partition. Keep in mind that deleting an existing partition also erases any data on that partition.

During setup, you only need to create and size the partition on which you plan to install Windows Vista. After Windows Vista is installed, you can use the Disk Management snap-in to make changes or create new partitions on your hard disk.
