What is Num lock and Scroll lock?

I have a old key board at there are these 2 buttons where the extra numbers keys are what are they used for as a better question what is this intyer section used for(It is on the right side)

  2. Not sure what your 2nd question is, but the Numlock is used to switch the pad between number entry and arrow keys (and the Home, End, Pgup and Pgdown keys as well).

    Why are they there? because back then in the 80's, IBM computers didn't have a seperate set of arrow keys, so they used the keypad as arrows instead.

    Today, some people use it to move the mouse cursor (as a accesibility option.)

    the Scroll lock is rarely ever used. In Excel, having it on prevents your selection from moving, but that's all it does, really.
