What is PCI-express 2.0?

Ok i have a motherboard and here is wat it has....it has 2 PCI - 1 PCI-E x1 - 1 PCI-E x8 - 2 PCI-E x16 it is fairly new and i was wondering when it says PCI-E is that PCI Express-2.0?

  1. yes. pci-e is short for pci express.

    there are two types of pci-e interface. pci-e 2.0 is the newer revision. Its slightly faster than the prevsions version. 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with 1.0 motherboards.

    pci-e is a graphics interface. its designed for fast data transfer between the cpu and the gpu. The result is better 3d rendering at high resolutions. the primary application for this technology is gaming.


  2. PCI is legacy connection, its old school (and slow), PCI express is a better, faster version, and should correlate directly with your graphics card choice.
