What is Paignton in Devon like?

Question

Looking at possible holiday destinations for next year. We have 4 kids between the ages 5 and 13. We want to be within walking distance of a good beach and have something to do in the evenings. Does this fit the bill or can you suggest somewhere else?

devon is realy nice in summer, but wen it is rainy and cold the beaches are not very nice, but there are loads of in door attractions

Paignton is really nice.

It's not too far from Torbay beach.

It has Paignton zoo, which is a must, its really good there.

It's near the coast which has pubs and restaurants and a load of hotels and b&b's and a lovely beach area.

There is a place next to Paighton called Goodrington Sands, and there are a few Caravan sites there, and we have stayed at the Beverley Holiday park, as they have a complex with a pool and evening entertainment, as well as restaurants and kids clubs.  It's then about a 10 minute walk down to the actual beach, which is very nice, and cleaned each morning.  

As a whole you can find all the attractions that are in the area on their own website, but the Zoo is great, so is the Water park, the steam railway has many happy memories for me, there is a new'ish sealife centre in Torquay, plus classics like Babbacombe Model village and Kent's Cavern. Brixham is good for an evening out, with many fish food eateries and ice-creme sellers, and oftern there is a band in the fish market at nights.

the steam train goes to Dartmouth, then you can get a boat up to Totness, and the bus creates the triangle back to Paighton, well worth a trip.  Also, if you have a car, it's only about an hour to the Eden project in Cornwall..

Hard to get to, even by car is Burgh Island with it's Art Deco hotel, which features in Agatha Christie's "Evil under the Sun" and the area is also great for water sports.
