How to Parapsychologist view sleep paralysis?

Do they view it as a sleep disorder, as spirit activity or as a little of both?

  1. an idea formed by looking at the condition

  2. Sleep paralysis is a natural phenomenon that is essential to human survival.  When we dream, our bodies do not act out our dreams, even if we think the dreams are real.  We want our bodies to be paralyzed while we dream, and so, sleep paralysis is a beneficial condition for humans.

When waking or just before sleeping, some people will experience their body going into sleep paralysis while they are still (at least partially) concious.  Some people are frightened by this.  Others become anxious and it prevents them from sleeping.  Still others might experience a dream based on the paralysis.  There is nothing unusual or paranormal in any of these experiences.

Some people believe that sleep paralysis is the explanation for Out of Body Experiences, Spiritual Encounters, or some other paranormal phenomenon.  Though some people in sleep paralysis may have a dream that they are out of their body, it does not mean that all OBE are the result of sleep paralysis.  Some people dream they are firemen, but that doesn't mean that firemen don't exist.

Sleep paralysis is real and natural.  It is not an adequate explanation for OBE or spirit contact.  There are too many cases that do not occur when sleep is involved.  I hope this helps to answer your question.

  3. Sleep paralysis is something that happens to everyone, for a brief moment, everytime they fall asleep and wake up, its part of the natural process.

When people get stuck in it, they experience demons, aliens, OEBs, etc....

It is a natural explanation for a very large percentage of paranormal study. It pretty much ruins it for people who want to write books and make money on people who believe in that stuff.

I guess there is mixed views on it, but it isnt anything paranormal and anyone who tries to convince someone that thier sleep paralysis is anything other than a sleeping disorder is irresponsible and shady.

  4. I think pretty much they think it does happen. They like to believe it doesn't explain everything.Alien abduction,Demons in the night. That kind of stuff. They want to believe it's real.No amount of proof will dissuade them. Here's an interesting link.

  5. not every SP episode can be classified as some sort of

OBE,or Lucid Dreaming, simply because that is not the way

to do things,; neurological disorders, must be explored as a contribute factor in SP also, neurological disorders are disorders that affect the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), the peripheral nervous system (peripheral nerves - cranial nerves included), or the autonomic nervous system.so both sides are possible,
