  1. The real one is a planet (not yet seen) that should exist further out than Pluto's orbit.

After Neptune's discovery, astronomers calculated (using perturbations in Neptune's orbit) that there should be another planet beyond Neptune and they called it Planet X.

(X for unknown, like in algebra).

During the Search, Pluto was discovered.  However, we now know that Pluto is way too small to cause any perturbation of Neptune's orbit.

Since then, other objects (some a bit bigger than Pluto) have been discovered, including one that astronomers would become the tenth planet when Pluto was still considered a planet:  it was called Planet X, where X meant 10 in roman numerals.

Statistically, if there are many objects of the same size, there should be at least one object much bigger than the others (like Ceres in the asteroid belt), and that is the object that is now thought to be Planet X.  It would be in a stable orbit, much further out than Pluto.  It has not been discovered yet.  It has been "predicted" by statistical analysis.

There is a planet x connected with the Big 2012 Hoax Off.  It does not exist.  It was invented as the source of a few hoaxes (lies) connected with the "doomsday prediction" of Dec. 21, 2012.  It is sometimes confused with Nibiru, another fictitious planet.

  2. The 10th planet, the one after pluto.

Mercury Venus Earth Mars jupitor saturn uranis neptune pluto planet x.

It was called that when they spotted a shadow outside there range of view and said it was the 10th planet.

  3. There are two takes on PlanetX

    1. It is just some so far unknown Planet beyond Pluto

    2. It is the dreaded Planet Nibiru, headed towards earth, in the mind of some idiots inhabited by some Aliens etc

  4. The one just before PlanetY.

  5. A figment of a conspiracy theorist's imagination.

    Seriously.

    .

  6. Planet X was an attempt to explain what scientists used to think were irregularities in the orbits of Neptune and Uranus.  It seemed at the time that something was pulling on those planets, causing wobbles in their orbits.  However, it's since been proved that there weren't really any irregularities in the orbits of Neptune and Uranus at all.  We just thought they were there.  When Voyager 2 passed by, we got really good data on the orbits of these planets and realized there was no problem to begin with.  There is, therefore, no reason to believe that a Planet X exists, although many conspiracy lovers still want to believe that it does.

  7. i heard its the new planet. its even further than Pluto..which isn't considered a planet anymore

  8. It was a theory of the 10th planet in our solar system. Turned out to be false. Look up planet darwin.

  9. it is next to Planet Y , but before Planet Z - in the Typhoid system, in the 331st billionth solar system. on the left

  10. i think it is the planet galaxy's away from earth but it can hold life.

  11. Planet x is one of the sillier (and that says something), of the First Decade Follies.

the 21st century opened with a great deal of hope... faster computers, less national debt, flying cars... we had hopes.

then several bad things happened and instead of putting them behind us and getting back to building a flying car, we sat in our depression and moped.

    Oh, Woe!

From this miasma came the Gleaners.  Mostly former Carnies, the Gleaners were responsible for the Hoaxes... and yes, there were several.

The Moon Hoax, the Bee Hoax, the Apophis Hoax, the Mayan Calendar Hoax and yes, the famous "I Found A Republican That Cares About Poor People" Hoax.

In the midst of all this, the Planet Xers, led by their charismatic leader... er... Racer X, saw an opportunity in the making.  Changing the date of collision from 2375 to 2012 was easy, besides, they figured no one would even look it up.

Astronomers were confused.  No such planet existed and it seemed that no such planet COULD exist, yet so many believed.  They pointed at their telescopes and explained that they saw nothing.  The Planet Xers made the claim that it was because Planet X was invisible... and pink.

Usually, no self-respecting astronomer will be seen in the same room as a Planet Xer, for fear that whatever they have, might be contagious.
