A prenuptial agreement in India is probably much like a prenuptial agreement anywhere else.  It is an agreement for people who are about to get married stating what assets they have before marriage will not be split up if they divorce.  For example, I know a woman who owned a condo and a new car.  She got married to a man who had nothing except the shirt on his back.  They made a prenuptial agreement so if they divorce, she will still have her condo and new car or if much time has passed, car has died and condo is sold, she will have the value of a similar condo and car instead.  If there was more left over from the divorce, they would split the rest.
