What is Privatization of War? Which wars have been privatized? What leads to privatization? What are the effects of privatization? What does society think of privatization? Any info on Blackwater? or Privateers?

  1. Any wars where one side used mercenaries is a privatized war because that side cannot find enough soldiers among its own population. Hannibal used mercenaries against Rome. In the current conflict in Iraq, private companies used to deal with the fact that we have all-volunteer army.  Your all-volunteer army is too small to handle all the security details so private companies are sought. Men for men, private companies are more expensive than the Army.

Well, there was the bay of pigs where we gave guns and boats to all those cubans then didn't provide adequate air support.  As for what leads to privatization, well money leads to it and the fact that people want to make more of it.  Alot of the wars in Africa during the 20th century have had private interests related to looting diamonds.  The British army was the world's first fully private army that didn't employ conscription to meet enlistment.  As for Blackwater, I don't know what to call them other than kind of scary.  Especially since they aren't subject to uniform code of military justice.
