Pro-rating means they give you credit for messages that you used over a given period of time that is less than a billing cycle. For example, say you have a 300 text plan, then you change it to a 1000 text plan about two weeks into your billing cycle. You would pay for the 1000 texts for your next month up front, plus 500 texts for the two weeks you would have left on your current billing cycle. You would then be given a credit for the old plan in favor of the new plan.
