  1. The plastic thing that holds a sixpack together works as a base filler if you are in desperate circumstances.  Very desperate.

  2. Ptex is a patented high density polyethelene material that was designed for use on ski bases in the late 60's. It is still in use but is modified by various methods of application. It absorbs wax when it is heated, and the wax is melted into it. It is quite hard when applied to the ski base, but it is flexible in the repair stick mode.

A little detailed...but it gives you an idea of what components make up Ptex.

    Hope this helps!

  4. this was a great question

im sick of all the "what board should i get?" questions

  5. It's a high quality plastic used for your base.  Different companies will make different kinds, some absorb wax better, some are more durable, and some are easier to repair.

P-tex actually absorbs the wax you put on, so you should always leave it waxed so the base doesn't dry out.

If you're looking to repair your base, you should be searching for P-tex candles instead of wax candles.  If you are going to repair it yourself, do it in a well ventilated area, and be careful.  I heard the fumes are toxic and P-tex burns go to the bone.

Or you could just take it to a shop and have them do a full job on it.  I got my base repaired, waxed, and edges sharpened for $50 near my house.  Could be more or less in your area though.
