What is Puerto Rican food like? What is mostly made and with what?

I am doing a project and wanted to know basically what the food is like for example the kinds of spices, is it mostly meat, pork, rice etc. what are popular dishes?

Arroz con habichuelas (rice with red beans) is a very popular dish in Puerto Rico. On special occasions, like Noche Buena  (Christmas Eve) they eat puerco asado (roasted pork).

I believe that Peurto Rican food is seasoned mostly with Adobo and Sazon.  They also use liquid based seasonings called Reciato and Sofrito.  They eat a lot of grains, Rice and Beans, Empanadas, Pastalillos, and things like this. My stepson is Puerto Rican so we cook these things in my house all the time.  I love them.

I lived in puerto rico for 5 years, and would have to say the food is basically the same as it is in the US.  One thing that I did love though was Empanadas....spicy beef in pastry. Yum!
