What is Ramadan? My boyfriend's Muslim and Ramadan starts tomorrow...?

My boyfriend's Muslim and Ramadan starts tomorrow. I don't share the same beliefs as him but I'm still very curious about his beliefs and 'celebrations' relating to his religion.

I know that he can't eat from sunrise to sunset but does this mean I can't see him and talk to him as well?

Is it okay for me to see him after sunset?

Is it wrong for him to be thinking of me during the day in the Ramadan period?

Is he going to have stable health throughout the day even though lacking in food and water?

  1. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramadan

he'll be fine... with food and water every day, just after dark

  2. Why not ask your boyfriend, since you appear to know nothing of his faith, it would be a good starting point, don't you think?

  3. funny how sum muslims keep boyfriends and girlfriends...and they dont realise or care that wht they are doing is against there religion..and all of a sudden when ramadan starts and they go all holy, and say yes this is wrong and that is wrong but end of the day they are munafiqs.... they dont even realise wht they do is zina and wrong....

    hadith is:

if u work in a blacksmiths shop, u come home smelling of iron and dirt......

if u work in a perfume shop, u come home smelling beautiful...

prophet mohammed said keep ur friends like this.

muslims have forgotten they are true muslims, not just muslims.

my allah forgive us all.. inshallah ameen

  4. So you are not a Muslim I take it so beware of the consequences as at the end of Ramadan they throw stones at the Devil to drive off evil spirits that linger between one Ramadan to the next at Mecca

  5. Yes, he will be healthy :) Even though this will be a month of not eating or drinking during the day, he might even gain weight due to the huge amounts of food for breaking the fast, Eid (the celebration after), etc.

For you it just means no sexual activity during the day (or sunrise to sunset). After that is fine. I think him thinking of you during the day is okay, but just as long as nothing physical happens.

Technically speaking, the whole boyfriend thing is a bit iffy, but if you don't think about that, then yes seeing him and speaking to him during the day is fine :) Try not to involve bad things in your conversation (eg gossip) as this isn't good during Ramadan. It's generally a time for coming closer to Allah, so all bad things should be avoided.

It's so wonderful that you want to support him :)

  6. No.

Yes and before if you want.

    No.

Yes. Well depends how much nutrients he gets.

Oh and also no s*x for you for a month.

  7. Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic Calendar. We believe that the devils are chained up in h**l therefore whatever actions we do in this month are purely from our decision and not caused by their whisperings or influence.

1st point. you can see your bf in Ramadan and you can talk to him but you cannot in any way kiss him, this will break his fast.

2nd point. If the relationship is in the sexual level it is better you do not not see him during the day because this could create a situation that can break his fast.

3rd point. fasting is definitely about health as well

conditions and benefits of fasting are:

-you don't have to fast if you physically can't handle it(if you are sick or have medical needs).

-fasting is considered detox for our body, it cleanses our body and give it a break from digesting the bad things that go in it and that includes that kidneys and all other parts of the body.

-so we can feel what other people that do not have food would feel and so we can appreciate the value of food.

    -gives us patience

    gives us self control

-spiritually fulfilling our duty for our religion

-making  God happy by obeying him

4th point. One of the reason why muslims do not have premarital relationships is because it conflicts with the religion. It is hard to control urges when they arise so you have to be extra carefl when you're with him.

  8. you can see him and talk to him, but you have to realize that Ramadan is a month of devotion to God. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of God, to offer even more prayer than normal and ask forgiveness for the sins of your past and ask for guidance in the future. To refrain from every day evils and try to purify oneself through self-restraint and good deeds. Ramadan is also a time when Muslims are to slow down from worldly affairs and focus on self reformation, spiritual cleansing and enlightenment, establishing a link between God Almighty and themselves by prayer, supplication, charity, good deeds, kindness and helping others.

  9. I think there's an actual Ramadan section on Y!A, maybe you will get more answers there, I'm sure some people will be able to answer your question on here too, though!
