  1. For Example you have a nokia handset you purchase on 01-Jan-2008.

you have been using it to its full and are happy with it, suddenly some error occurs in the phone, or it becomes slow, or you want that your phone should be refreshed to increase its speed

OR you want that it should be in the same condition as you purchased on 01-Jan-2008 (e.g, settings, appearance etc)

you will select the option of Restore Factory Settings and it will refresh all the settings of your mobile...

Same goes with computers specially with their BIOs (CMOS Setups). windows (if you have created a restore point at the start of use of windows after your new installation).

it also exist in certain good softwares where there is a set of default factory settings (that are recommended & optimized).

Simply you can say its a refreshing technique for ur hardware.

  2. Restore factory settings mean that your settings will be back to the way they were originally set when you got your phone/computer.

  3. Probably erases everything put in after you bought it and starts it back clean from scratch like new.

  4. Restoring factory settings just restores the default settings and options that a computer had when you first got it (they were specified as it was built in a factory, thus the name). In doing this the computer is often wiped clean and essentially erased to bring it back to its initial state.
