My lawyer hasn't told me anything yet. However tonight I was doing a search on the public court system website... There's a status hearing set for next month. What does this mean?

(We just completed our home study not too long ago.. All we are waiting for is a court date.. and oh I think the back ground check from the U.S. should be completed or nearly completed)

  1. It's no big deal, usually.  Everyone just shows up & tells the judge what's been going on.

During a status hearing I went to early in the adoption the state neglected to tell me (until I got there) that I would have to fight for my child because another couple had been having illegal visits with the child (before he was placed with me).  They were wanting to adopt him, also.  They hadn't followed the proper procedures so it was no big deal, but it kind of freaked me out, not expecting it.  Their lawyer was not nice, of course.

It wouldn't hurt to talk with "person" & find out what will be discussed.  Usually it is just routine, though.
