Can anyone describe the city in several sentences so I can get a gist of what it's like? (especially if you can compare it San Fran or even NYC that would be great) I am considering moving there next year and want to know if the idea is worth exploring.

  1. I love san jose I was born and raised there, always something there to do and people are very nice. too much to explain. I love san jose, and it's not as busy as nyc and san fran, you would love living in san jose.

  2. San Jose is not like NYC or SF because those cities are very Urban. San Jose is a classic suburban city, like a clean, newer, less crime ridden Los Angeles.

San Jose is the 10th largest city in the nation with nearly 1 million persons. It is a vast city with a new and growing downtown filling with many midrise office towers and hi-rise condominium projects. The city is criss-crossed with more than 5 freeways, 7 expressways and many wide boulevard style streets that connect the 8 neighboring smaller towns and  cities including Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Mt. View, Palo Alto, Cupertino, Milpitas, Campbell. Unfortunatly it is one of the most expensive areas in the US to live.

    Some cool things:

    a. Awesome weather -rarely rains.

    b. Very clean, for a city of over a million residents.

    c. Top notch Police and DA. Very few crimes go unsolved.

    d. One of safest big cities in nation.

    e. Recession proof, According to Fortune Magazine

    f. Kickass City hall edifice.

    g. Tons of arts and cultural festivals.

    h. HP pavilion=Great concerts, one of top venues in the world.

    i. Location- 25 mins to coast, 1 hour to SF, 2 hours to wine country.

    j. Santana Row (Shopping/eating) is pretty cool place to spend a early evening in summer

    K. It is SIlicon Valley! dozens of top corporations located here, Ebay, Apple, Google, Cisco, Intel, HP, netfliks,TIVO, Yahoo....

  3. San Jose is really much more suburban than either San Francisco or New York City and rents/home prices are a bit lower, but not by much.  However, the city is really trying to build up the downtown.  Nevertheless, their are great restaurants in the area, especially Mexican and Asian, and other fun things to do such as parties and dances.  San Francisco and Santa Cruz are both just a short drive away and their are many beautiful parks and open spaces nearby.  Probably the best thing about living in San Jose is the weather, which in my opinion is better than New York City or San Francisco.

  4. San Jose has a nice downtown area. It's not huge compared to San Francisco at all but it is much cleaner. There is an art museum, a tech museum, a lot of resturaunts and Christmas time is the best because they put amusement park rides everywhere. Sometimes there are concerts downtown in the park area. The weather is nice can get kinda hot but is raining to. Outside of downtown there are some pretty seedy places. I used to live around there outside the college. San Jose is really spread out but other points of interest are great america, and raging waters. There are 2 malls and lots to do, also lots of clubs. The Winchester Mystery House is also there and tons of movie theaters. Most of the area is suburban though. There's also the HP Pavillian a big concert hall. You're usually never bored and that's nice. People seem to keep to themselves though actually and it seems hard to make friends just kinduve walking about. People are friendly and not mean but more stand-offish I guess and kinduve clicky and there's some silicon valley people and yuppies kinduve there to. But also a lot of regular people. It is very different than San Francisco not as many tall buildings and it is flat with no hills. Also it is not along the water. All in all its a nice place to live and lots to do, it wasn't where I always dreamed to live though, which was Santa Cruz so I recently moved there 4 months ago from San Jose.
