What is Selfridge Air National Guard Base like? Has anyone been stationed there?

Where would you rank this base compared to other bases accross the nation? Where would you rank the social aspect regarding the base compared to other bases accross the nation?

Never stationed there. But, I'm given to understand that operational tempo at Selfridge, along with the Air Reserve Base in Youngstown Ohio and the Air National Guard at Niagara Falls New York, has gone up by quantum leaps since September 11, 2001. Apparently they have the task of Operation Noble Eagle air patrols over the Great Lakes.

After retiring from the Navy I moved back to Michigan and utilized Selfridge quite a bit mainly for medical which was very professional and well equipped.  The exchange and commissary are lacking in both size and stock.  The winters are really nasty but the other three seasons are really nice.

It is right on lake St Clair and that makes it good.

I would rank it at the bottom.  It's been there for a gazillion years.  It serves its purpose.
