What is Senectus as a cause of death?

I am researching my family tree and senectus is given as the cause of death in 1918, of one of my ancestors

  3. Senectus takes its name the Roman God of old age. So I would guess old age.

  4. It simply means either old age or the dementia that sometimes comes with age, but most likely the former.  Although, considering the time period involved, your ancestor may have died at the age of 60, since lifetimes were shorter then.
