  1. Electronic stabilty programme is like traction control it cuts out the power to the wheels or wheel when they loose traction, therefore avoiding a slide. Its better in the wet than the dry

I have mine off in teh dry more fun!

  2. It the clever programme that electronically controls the suspension on your car to compensate for extreme movements ( say making a fast turn)  without loss of grip or loss of control of steering.

Its also the programme that Jeremy Clarckson of Top Gear turns off when testing cars so that he can feel how the car really behaves.

  3. The electronic stability program (ESP) is a further enhancement to the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control system (TCS). The ESP is designed to detect a difference between the driver's control inputs and the actual response of the vehicle. When differences are detected, the system intervenes by providing braking forces to the appropriate wheels to correct the path of the vehicle. This automatic reaction is engineered for improved vehicle stability, particularly during severe cornering and on low-friction road surfaces, by helping to reduce over-steering and under-steering.

To implement ESP functionality, additional sensors must be added to the ABS system. A steering wheel angle sensor is used to detect driver input with a yaw rate sensor and a low-G sensor that measure the vehicle response. Some ESP systems include a connection to the powertrain controller of the vehicle to enable reductions in engine torque when required.

  4. I imagine it's some thing to do with establishing your telepathic gifts.

  5. It is an improvement over traction control which only stops spinning by controlling engine power.

ESP works with the ABS system by also applying the brakes to the neccesary wheel(s) this can stop a sideways spin on ice or snow and allows even better acceleration
