  1. Tenant farming is when a landlord who owns normally a substantial amount of land "rents" or "leases" the land to another individual, who in turn farms it and gives a portion (and possibly all) of the produce to the landlord in return for use of the land and possibly even living quarters.

    This type of farming was (and is still) used extensively in European nations.


  2. Basically means that the guy running the farm doesn't own the land he only rents it.
