    As in http://www.roman-empire.net/republic/rep... , passed under the yoke with their entire army, stripped of their armour and weapons.

    The original version says that they were also brutalized (in the sexual meaning of the term) by the Samnites.

  3. The Caudine Forks are mountain passes in the Appenines south east of Rome. The Romans surrendered to the   Samnites - and were then humiliated by the winners.
