  1. Usually teachers from high school have a BA. Professors and Instructors usually have a M.A. or PhD.


  2. Usually someone who lectures in college needs to have an advanced degree (master's, PhD); a K-12 teacher just needs a bachelor's degree.

  3. In addition to the differences in required minimum education, college instructors spend less time in classes teaching, have fewer assignments to grade, and have more time to research their subject.  The result often is a more interesting time for the student in the college class.

  4. To be a full time tenured professor, you need a to hold a Ph.d.  You know this by addressing them as Prof. so and so. Lecterers addressed as Mr. or Ms. so and so are people who are working to get their doctorates and are advanced professionals.  Teachers who work K-12 must have their master's degree and their plus 30 credits.

  5. as a teacher in a school i dotn lectuer all the time in math or algebra- i switch modes of learning about every 10 minutes.

    we do practicals- balls rollign down ramps, algebra tiles, jumoungarooudn beign a graph translating around be it linear quadratic exp etc.

    we  do a lot of group projects like graphign xy=12

    weighign cheerios and m+ms for solvign simulstaneuos equations.

      and yes i do lecture but only short amount of time( not a whole hour)

      at college that doesnt happen,  u are spoken to and that is it- you do group work with  people on yr course but limited. reading in the college course mainly happens outside the lecture hall. for every hour of lecture u do about twice that in the library.

  6. High school teachers try and keep their students engaged with the material...sort of like a cheerleader.  As a result, there is a lot of methods used to get kids involved.

    Professors are not so interested in whether or not the student likes the material, as they are with making sure they impart all the knowledge they need to.  This usually means it is up to students to find a way to engage themselves, even when the topic is not interesting.

    I went to a great University, but 99.9% of my classes were strictly lecture, with little discussion or group work.  I would never approach my high school classes with that approach, because it would never work.
