What is Tortellini?

Just saw this mentioned in another question and I would like to be able to make an informed decision.

I remember watching a food channel program featuring Tortellini.  There are two Provence's of Italy that lay claim to the origin of Tortellini.

Tortellini are tiny pasta shapes, folded to resemble a navel. The Bolognese claim to have created this special member of the pasta family and in the city of Bologna there is the Learned Order of the Tortellini with a large and impressive membership all of whom are dedicated to the preservation of the traditional tortellini. At their functions members wear red and gold hats shaped like a tortellini and a ribbon round their necks from which dangles a tortellini made of gold. It is said that when the Bolognese eat their famous tortellini in brodo, they never speak a word until the dish is finished, and then only to utter a gentle murmur of appreciation.

Neighbouring Modena, Bologna’s fiercest gastronomic rival, also lays claim to the creation of the tortellini, declaring it to be the invention of a local cook who dreamt that he saw Venus rising from the waves, glimpsed her perfect navel and rushed into his kitchen to recreate this perfection in pasta.

Most tortellini's that I have tried had a cheese mixture of some kind. Some with seafood (lobster, crab, shrimp) and cheese, or just a mixture of cheeses. Very delicious!

That's what it looks like and it usually has meat or cheese inside and you cook it the same as ravioli.

It's very good but very heavy in the belly.

Its a kind of Italian Pasta. Stuffed with cheese. Its may sound like Ravioli but it is completely different.

Tortellini is a stuffed pasta from the Parma region in Italy. The filling is prosciutto (italian ham), and parmigiano cheese.  The shape resembles a belly button...folk lore says orgionally representing venus' belly button..a tribute to her beauty??  tru or not who knows. The come in different sizes, the regular for a normal pasts dish, smaller to be consumed in broth.
