  1. Its a real lovely town. A nice pedestrian area with lots of small quaint shops, Roman relics and nice atmosphere. Its easy to travel from there to Luxembourg (50 kms) and for traveling in the area. I have stayed there often.

  2. Trier is a wonderful place if your looking for a quiet visit.  Every thing is within walking distance of everything else.  For the most part the 'Old town' is a lot like other german cities.  There is the Dom Cathedral, Karl Marx birthplace and boyhood home, it is right along the Mosel River, roman bathhouse and ampitheatre (which puts on performances).  There are also bike trails in the hills around the city going through the vineyards.  All in all it is worth a stop.

  3. A smallish city, it's situated in a lovely environment of mountains.

It is the oldest city in Europe north of the Alps.

I don't know what special information you are after, mainly it's like most German cities of a similar size.

It has many relics from Roman times, the most famous one is the Porta Nigra (=black gate), but also a basilica of Constantine's and a Roman bath complex.

In the Cathedral they keep what they maintain is the garment Jesus wore and that the soldiers diced over. Every ten years it is exhibited and even in our godless times there are still many pilgrims from all over Germany, the catholic Netherlands, and eastern France.

    Karl Marx was born there.

It is not far from the romantic Mosel valley wine area with its gorgeous medieval towns like Bernkastel.

Sorry, but that's about the amount of my knowledge.
