I use BT Broadband for the internet and not internet explorer. I also have Symantec Virus Protection via BT Online Protection. I keep having an internet explorer box pop up saying that the page was not available. Then a symantec box saying they have blocked an attack by Trojan Vundo, the a box telling me to restart my PC, which if I do not do straight away, another Symantec box telling me the threat has now been removed and my computer is now secure. I have run a full system scan with Norton overnight but this is still happening. HELP!!!!

  1. The Vundo family of Trojans is one of the most common infections we find on user's computers. This infection can cause popups that include advertisements for rogue anti-spyware programs. Some common rogue antispyware programs that are advertised include WinFixer, SysProtect and WinAntiSpyware. Users are normally targeted by false positives, fake alerts, and warning of infections on their computer. An example of this type of misleading advertisement would be popups alerting users that they are infected with a blackworm virus. The most common method of infection is through outdated versions of the Sun Java platform; older versions are being exploited so it is important to firstly make sure that your Java software is fully up to date. This infection is normally detectable by users receiving popups when they use the Internet. Your antivirus program might also notify you via an alert that you have a Vundo Trojan on your computer

  2. You say Symantec removed it. That sounds to me that it must be something else. Like malware. l'd try Malwarebytes by ms it's free and it won't hurt to try it.

  3. The BT Broadband browser is just a modified skin on Internet Explorer, isn't it? So the vulnerabilities are likely to be much the same as Microsoft's heap of junk.

I have a BT Internat account but I don't use any of their stuff, I use Firefox on all my machines.

Bear in mind that once you suss that your PC has a Trojan, any error messages might themselves be misleading because they might be created by the trojan itself. Often, a bit of intrusive code needs a restart to make it active in your system, so by getting you to reboot your machine it's done its job.

I'd do a bit of googling to find references to that particular strain of virus and then find out what people recommend you do to get rid of it. Try using completely independent apps to sweep the system, too. This needn't cost you a lot of money.
