So I have this major issue with my computer...

Long story short I have the BSoD..

So bad I can't even get it in Safe Mode or ANYTHING..

Someone told me to run a memtest, I have no idea what the heck that is, I tried it anyway due to my desperation, and it didn't work.. I had to burn a CD and everything.

He said after you do that you download a CD of ubuntu, except I have no idea what that is either.

After reading about it I'm guessing it's similar to Windows.

AHH.

  1. Memtest 86 is a program used to test your memory, you have to create a bootable disc and boot from it, thats assuming you can get a post from your motherboard.  When you run memtest it should go into a blue screen and start running various test on the memory.  If you get any red boxes that means your memory has failed and you will need to replace it.  If you dont get any red boxes the memory isnt the problem.

If your motherboard isnt posting that means your mobo is shot.

Ubuntu is an free open source operating system done by the people for the people.  It is more advanced operating system and half the time you spend time making your system run properly than using it.  If Ubuntu doesn't have drivers for your motherboard, videocard, sound card. then you have to write the drivers yourself.  very complicated.

  2. Ubuntu is a Linux based operating system. Unlike Windows (another operating system) Ubuntu is free.

Memtest is a software program to test the memory in your computer. Bad memory can cause a BSoD but is not the only cause.

If you have the original Windows disk you can reinstall it but make sure all your data is backed up.

  3. Ubuntu is an open source operating system a bit like windows only it's free and so are all the programs that run on it. It is also virus free. It has become very popular and is easy to use. Type in Ubuntu in youube to see it work
