  1. Both Ubuntu and Kubuntu are Linux distros. with different Desktop Environments.

Ubuntu has the Gnome Desktop Environment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNOME

Kubuntu has the KDE Desktop Environment

  2. They are both Operating Systems like Windows or Mac but are Linux based. Ubuntu and Kubuntu are exactly the same apart from Ubuntu is the base OS when Kubuntu is Ubuntu but with some added features, a bit like having Windows Vista Home Edition or Home Premium.

Only the basic Ubuntu is free but you must pay for its other additions, such as Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Gobuntu, Ubuntu MID Edition and Xubuntu.

You download it as a .iso file which you then need to burn to a dvd-rom, and boot your computer off of the dvd-rom. It then gives you a few choices, either to run the "live" ubuntu (no changes are made) or to install it on a partion on your hard drive (Very hard to remove) or to install it as a part of Windows (uninstall like a regular program). I tried Ubuntu for about a year and it is very hard to get software and hardware for it so I don't recommend it.

  3. those are linux based operating systems like windows and mac osx.

The different derivitives of Ubuntu are along the left panel.  Click on each one for a run down of what each one is.

  5. Ubuntu and Kubuntu are linux Operating systems based on the popular Debian Linux. The only difference between the two are that ubuntu runs Gnome for a windows manager and Kubuntu runs KDE

  6. Hi,

Ubuntu is a computer operating system based on the Linux kernel. Its goals include providing an up-to-date yet stable operating system for the average user with a strong focus on usability and ease of installation.

Kubuntu is an official derivative of the Ubuntu Linux distribution using the KDE graphical environment instead of GNOME. It is part of the Ubuntu project and uses the same underlying system.

Gnome is easy and simple to use as it's much lighter whislt KDE has brilliant features, much more beautiful but it's much heavier. As explained above, Kubuntu uses KDE and Ubuntu uses GNOME. So use Kubuntu if you want the look. If look doesn't matter, use Ubuntu. Again, about installation or download, try the Apple Site to get help from them. Im sure the site's been bookmarked in your Mac. Hope this has made up for the lazy answers I gave you yesterday.
