What is Vancouver like?

Question

I heard Vancouver was voted the best city in the world. What is it like? I've never been to USA or Canada, and am wondering what Vancouver is like? The weather? Is it busy? Are there beaches?

it's nice. it has a very natural environment. there are many trees by the parks along the water and you can watch the sun rise and sun set on the beaches here. there are a lot of women who are very beautiful here and a lot of really good looking guys. there are many asian people as well, especially in Richmond which is only a bus ride away from vancouver. There are nice cars here and nice houses. They have a busy street down town in vancouver where people can shop and movie stars come here from time to time. on the street you can see cars which have been decorated with sea shells and there and a lot of yoga pants that women wear here. there is a brand called "TNA" which is really popular and a store called aritiza where women get their $300 jeans. Cost of living is okay. If you live here there really isn't much to do, you can go hiking and outdoorsy stuff. come visit. the people here are great.

Late April - Late October, to die for

Late October - Late April, to avoid.  Unless you live here, which you will learn how to deal with it, or you will pack and go elsewhere.

Beaches all over.  We are not talking about Mile long beaches, but streatches of them, all over.

City is Cosmopolitan.  Family friendly, bars and clubs are overly oriented towards the 20-25 years age group.

Water, mountain, greenery, are all souronding you.  But, like any other major city, there are areas that you would have a hard time believing to be on the same city map.

Vancouver, Washington or Vancouver, British Columbia? I perfer BC. The city is so clean and strangers walking on the street say, "Hello". There's skiing, hiking, fishing, sightseeing, etc. I never saw a beach though.

go to Stanley Park!!!

you can hike, bike, just lay down on the grass, have picnic and basically, do just about anything there!!!!

the place is truly AMAZING!!!

There's the Brockton Point Lighthouse, Totem Poles and Prospect Point, where you could have a great view of the Lions Gate Bridge and Grouse Mountain from the top of Prospect Point.

You might also want to consider going to Cypress Mountain and watch the beautiful sunset from there. It's only 30 minutes away from the heart of downtown Vancouver.

It also offers one of the best ski resorts in town!!!

It'll aslo be fun to visit Gastown's Historical Steamclock, which was designed and built by Ray Saunders in 1977. It belches steam and hoots out the famous Westminster chimes "Big Ben" theme!!! i love it!!!

you could also spend a perfect day at Granville Island.

Granville Island lies below the Granville Street bridge. The public market has everything you need and the island also offers lots of places to dine.

You could also bring your dog and jog on the beach of Vancouver Downtown.

the beach is not good for swimming but it's really nice to see in Downtown.

You should also dine at THE EATERY... The Funkiest place for Japanese food indeed!

Don't miss the Capilano Suspension bridge too!!!

It is said to be Vancouver's oldest tourist attraction, which was originally built in 1889.

It stretches 450 feet (137m) across and 230 feet (70m) above the Capilano River.

Go and visit the Lighthouse Park too, if you have more time.

It contains the largest uncut, coastal-elevation trees in the Lower Mainland, which a spectacular view!!! This is within a 10-minute walk of the parking lot.

Also, ride a ferry (about an hour and a half) going to Victoria Island to complete your Vancouver experience!

It is said to be the vacation capital of Canada.

Go to the Parliament building to have a good view of marina; then, have a tea break at the Fairmont Empress Hotel.It is one of Victoria's highlights, with its true British tradition and atmosphere!!!

Before going back to the city, have a soup and salad at Pagliacci's, which is very popular to the locals for is great pasta, desserts, and wonderful ambiance!!!

I live in Vancouver and I think it's a really nice place. It's a pretty big city, with lots of parks and shopping.

The weather: it doesn't get too cold or too hot. But we are known for all the rain we get. Currently the weather is really nice, i think for the next couple of days it's supposed to get as hot as 33 degrees Celsius (which is the hottest its been this summer).

Vancouver is a busy city, and it sometimes gets difficult to get to places quickly. We have a lot of shopping places, and a lot of movies are filmed here so it's not uncommon to see celebrities or films being made.

We do have beaches. Actually we have quite a few and at this time of the year they're really busy as well. Most people swim or do water sports like wake boarding or surfing.

Vancouver is located right at the pacific Ocean with mountains to the North and lots of forests surrounding the cities. The city isn't as big as LA or NY or Toronto, but it's not very small either. there are many beaches along the coastline with beautiful views of the mountains and Stanley park. For tourists Vancouver can be really beautiful and sunny at all times in the summer. But fall and winter expect lots and lots of rain daily. If you move away from downtown Vancouver, it's really likely that you'll incounter many Asians. You'll wonder, "is this Canada, or China/India?"

Vancouver's housing is relatively expensive compared to other cities in Canada. Job market is still really good here. For those wanting to study here, there are many colleges and 2 main universities. Not much fun stuff to do here though for young people. Vancouver is pretty famous for its oldstyle activities... If you're looking for fishing, skiing, tanning at the beach, or seeing beautiful views, then Vancouver is the place for you, but if you're looking or crazy nightclubs, concerts, or crazy stuff to do, you might wanna go to LA instead.
