Question:

What is VantageScore and is it useless?

I just paid money for my credit score from Experian and all they gave me was my VantageScore. I wanted my FICO score. I called and was told the only way to get my FICO score was from MYFICO.com.

So my question is what good is my VantageScore? Is this some sort of industry standard? Is it only something used by Experian that no lender would care about?

My VantageScore was 786 by the way.

Thank you in advance.

  1. Vantage is the relatively new scoring system used by Experian and TransUnion.  The scale goes up to 950 (I think) as opposed to FICO's 850 max.  Basically, it is pretty useless.  Creditors look at FICO.

If you want your score, go to MyFico.com.  You get the most up-to-date real FICO.
